How to write a quote for electrical jobs
A good quote wins the job before you've picked up a tool. Here's what to put on one, with real examples from electricians, and the quick way to make your own.
What every quote should include
- Your business details. Name, phone, email and your logo, so it's obvious who it's from.
- A quote number and date. So you and your customer can refer back to it.
- A clear scope of work. Exactly what you'll do, in plain English. It's what stops arguments later.
- Labour and parts. Splitting them out shows where the money goes and builds trust.
- VAT, if you're registered. Show the subtotal, VAT at 20% and the total, plus your VAT number.
- How long the price stands. "Valid for 30 days" protects you if material prices go up.
- Payment terms. When you expect to be paid, e.g. within 14 days of completion.
